2009 Ryder Cup Still Without a Home

RSS

Sandy Jones, Chief Executive of the Ryder Cup committee in Europe, has announced that the decision on where to hold the 2009 Ryder Cup has yet to be determined.

With the choice originally to have been made sometime in February, Jones has now stated that it could be in July or possibly even later. The delay comes as a result of the committee's wishes to view Slaley Hall in Northumberland, England under tournament conditions, which will not occur until June during the Compaq European Grand Prix.

The English bid for the venue will be evaluated at that time, as will Scottish and Welsh bids in the meantime.

In another development, it seems Scotland's Colin Montgomerie has become quite vocal in his hopes of captaining the '09 European squad. Montgomerie will be 46 at the time, and while he feels he may not be quite as competitive as he is today, he has stated he would be a good fit for the captaincy.

The big Scot's intervention could very likely play a key role in the committee's decision on which venue to select.
