Advil Western Open Raises Purse

The PGA Tour's 2001 Advil Western Open announced it has increased its purse to $3.6 million, up from $3 million a year ago.
'We're proud of our status as the third oldest golf championship in the world behind only the British Open and U.S. Open,' said John Kaczkowski, WGA tournament director. 'We also are the oldest event on the PGA TOUR. Our new record purse, which is $600,000 higher than last year's $3 million purse, guarantees that the Advil Western Open will remain positioned as one of the PGA Tour's elite events.'
Last year Robert Allenby beat Nick Price with a par on the first playoff to earn $540,000. This year's winner will take home $648,000,
The tournament will be held July 2-8 at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club in Lemont, Ill.
