Alcott to Host LPGA event in LA

RSS

Amy Alcott will serve as the tournament host for the LPGA's stop in Los Angeles, Ca. The Office Depot hosted by Amy Alcott will take place April 12-14, at the Wilshire Country Club.

Alcott joins Betsy King (First Union Betsy King Classic) and Nancy Lopez (Chick-fil-A Charity Championship hosted by Nancy Lopez) as the only three active players to have their names associated with tour stops.

Alcott joins an elite list of LPGA Tour members who have been involved with LPGA events beyond just competing. From Betsy Rawls and Babe Zaharias in 1953 to Alcott in 2001, a total of nine LPGA Tour Hall of Fame members have held this distinction - Patty Berg, Pat Bradley, Louise Suggs, Mickey Wright, Alcott, King, Lopez, Rawls and Zaharias.

Alcott, a 29-time LPGA winner entered the LPGA Tour Hall of Fame in 1999. A resident of nearby Santa Monica, Alcott grew up in the Los Angeles area and is very involved in numerous charitable efforts in the community. She is also involved in the redevelopment of the Westchester Golf Course and Driving Range in Los Angeles, which will include an Amy Alcott Golf Academy.

'It's obviously an honor to be asked to play a role as host by the City of Hope,' said Alcott. 'I grew up in this area and played all of my junior golf here and if they believe I can add a special flair to the event, I will be happy to do all I can.'
