Amateur Tour Crowns 12 National Champions

Golf Channel Amateur TourPALM HARBOR, Fla. -- The GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour concluded its National Championships at Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club by crowing National Champions in each of the 12 competitive flights. All rounds were contested on Copperhead Course, the home of the PGA TOURs PODS Championship, and more than 750 golfers started the week with 155 making the cut to the final round.
 
Travis Drain of Broken Arrow, Okla., carded a final-round 74 for a total of 288 to defeat Chase Barnes of Houston, Texas, by four shots over a challenging course that proved to be the most difficult of all four rounds. Competing in the top flight, the Palmer Division, Drain played the front side in 1 under par to beat 70 players from his flight. This was Drains first year on the GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour which is in its ninth year of existence.
 
Hoisting the trophy in the Nicklaus Division, for players with a USGA handicap of 4.0 ' 7.9, was Jeremy Smith of Wildomar, Calif. Jeremy joins his father as the second to win a GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour National Championship in his household when he distanced himself from the field courtesy of a nine-stroke victory and 319 total score.
 
The Hogan Division was won by Largo, Florida's own Ryan Bondio, whose consistent play sustained him in the finals and allowed him to beat Daryl Laurange of Ellicott City, Md., in a one-hole playoff.
 
Former professional boxer, Glenn LaPlante of St.Petersburg, Fla., took home the National Championship Trophy in the Sarazen Flight by holding his overnight lead and delivering the knock-out par during the one-hole playoff against fellow Floridian, Chad Tatge of Lake Park.
 
Cedric Coleman, a native of Foothill Ranch, Calif., captured the Jones Flight by a six-shot margin in defeating Paul Joseph of La Plata, Md.
 
The Snead Flight Champion was finally crowned after a 92 was carded on Copperhead by Sarasota, Floridas Douglas Morgan. Morgan needed a strong finish to secure the trophy from hard-charging James Laws of San Diego, Calif.
 
GOLF CHANNEL Amateur Tour Players over 50 years old competed in Senior Division Flights under the same division handicaps and the results are as followed:
