Aree Leads South Atlantic


ORMOND BEACH, Fla. - Sixteen-year-old Aree Song Wongluekiet barged into the lead of the South Atlantic Amateur Golf Tournament Thursday with an even-par 72. Combined with her 76 at the beachside layout at Oceanside Country Club near Daytona Beach, Fla., she vaulted into a two-stroke lead at 148.
Laura Myerscough of Charleston, Ill., shot the days best score of 71 Thursday and holds down second place with Laura Rowe of Bedford, N.H. Myerscough opened with a 79 Wednesday while Rowe has posted 76-74.
In a third-place tie is Arees twin, Naree, the tournaments defending champion. Naree, of Bradenton, Fla., shot a 74 to go with her opening-round 77 and stands at 151. She is tied with Corey Weworski or Carlsbad, Calif.
Regine Parker on Hobe Sound, Fla., held the first-round lead with a 74, but had an 80 Thursday.
The 72-hole tournament runs through Saturday.
