Auburn Captures Cleveland Golf Classic

NCAABATON ROUGE, La. - The Auburn women's golf team hung on to its two-stroke lead on the final day of competition at the LSU Cleveland Golf Classic as the Tigers claimed the title at the par-72, 6,333-yard University Club Sunday afternoon.
'We had a very strong tournament,' head coach Kim Evans said. 'Nicole Hage really played well and ended up finishing third, but we had great performances from everyone. This was a big team victory.'
The Tigers defeated LSU by two strokes, firing a three-day total of 9-over (297-289-287--873) while the Bengal Tigers finished second with an 11-over 298-290-287--875. Finishing third is another SEC team in Vanderbilt, who carded a 14-over 307-292-279--878 in the three rounds.
Individually, Auburn junior Nicole Hage finished third with a 3-under 76-69-68--213. Hage finished the tournament with 13 birdies in the three rounds. She was followed by Maria Martinez in a tie for sixth at 1-over with a 72-74-71--217, Jessica Lovell in a tie for 15th carding a 6-over 74-74-74--222, Margaret Shirley finished 20th at 8-over with a 77-73-74--224 and Abigale Schepperle carded an 11-over as she tied for 30th with a 77-73-79--237. As an individual, Auburn freshman Mariana Macias finished in a tie for 58th with an 18-over 84-76-74--234.
Winning individual honors was Vanderbilt's Jacqui Concolino, who fired a six-under 75-68-67--210 and was followed by LSU's Melissa Eaton at 5-under (73-66-72--211).
