Aussie Stars Gather for Australian Open

Several of Australias biggest names will compete this week in the countrys biggest tournament ' the 88th Australian Open.
 
Stephen Allan is back to defend the title he won a year ago in Melbourne. This time, hell vie for a repeat at Moonah Links on Victorias Mornington Peninsula.
 
Allan is one of six past champions in the field. Peter Senior, who won in 1989, is in search of his second consecutive Australasian Tour title after his win in last weeks Australian PGA.
 
Australians Craig Parry, 2001 champion Stuart Appleby, two-time champion Aaron Baddeley and 1995 winner Robert Allenby are competing for the $270,000 first-place prize.
 
U.S. Amateur champion Nick Flanagan is also in attendance.
 
Allan won last years edition, which was weather-shortened to 54 holes, by a stroke over Baddeley, Parry and Rich Beem.
 
Baddeley captured this title as an amateur in 1999 and again as a professional in 2000.
 
Other notable champions of this prestigious event include: Gary Player (seven times), Jack Nicklaus (six times), Greg Norman (five times), Peter Thomson (three times), Gene Sarazen (1936), Bobby Locke (1955), Arnold Palmer (1966) and Tom Watson (1984).
