Aussie Tournaments Cut in Half

The number of golf tournaments should be cut in half because of rising appearance fees and a declining economy, the Australian Golf Union says.
Colin Phillips, head of the AGU, called for six big events instead of the current 11. And appearance fees and other money should be cut accordingly, says Phillips.
'For a country of 19 million people, we are trying to maintain too many golf tournaments,' said Phillips.
'But the (PGA) Tour has no control over anyone. Everybody is worried about their own little pile.'
