British Am to Move Dates in 2006

RSS

The British Amateur Championship will move from its traditional early June date to a date two weeks' later in 2006 in an attempt to strengthen the entries from America. The new dates, June 19-24, will avoid a conflict with the NCAA Championships which has prevented top collegiate players in the United States from taking part in the Amateur.

The 2006 Amateur Championship will be held at Royal St George's, where this year's British Open will be played in July. The adjoining course at Prince's will jointly host the 36-hole stroke play qualifying, and the top 64 players and ties will go forward to the match play stage at Royal St. Georges.

The 2006 tournament was the first time the switch could be made. Years 2003-2005 are already scheduled.
