With most of the Americans having crossed back over the Atlantic, a once-again heavy European field kicks in the last third of the season and the race for the money title.
Returning to defend his title is 44-year-old Bernhard Langer, coming off a tie for 28th at Muirfield.
Last year's victory here saw Langer go lights-out down the stretch on Sunday, with an eagle and four birdies in his last eight holes, to force a playoff. A stunned Warren Bennett then three-putted the first extra hole to give Langer his 40th European title.
British Open champion Ernie Els, who placed 12th here last year, is not in the field this week.
Colin Montgomerie has withdrawn from the event, saying he cant tolerate anymore negative treatment from the press. A flap at the British Open, where he came in second to last, opened old wounds and caused him to pull out from his next two scheduled tournaments.
The TNT Open is played on the 6741-yard par-71 Noordwijkse Golf Club, just 25 minutes from Amsterdam.
