British Open to Proceed As Planned

The British Open has decided to proceed as planned for the tournament July 19-22, despite the foot-and-mouth disease which is infecting British livestock.
The announcement was made by Peter Dawson, the secretary of the Royal and Ancient, during a meeting at Royal Lytham and St. Annes, the venue for this year's championship.
Crowds are expected to be 200,000 in County Lancashire, home of the course. Prize money has risen to 600,000 pounds ($865,000).
