The second-ranked UCLA women's golf team and junior All-American Charlotte Mayorkas increased their leads during the second round of the Northrop-Grumman Regional Challenge at the Palos Verdes Country Club.
The Bruins posted a 9-over par score of 293 Tuesday and stretched their lead from 13 shots to 25 over second place New Mexico. After 36 holes the Bruins boast a two-round score of 579, 11-over par. New Mexico is second at 604, followed by Arizona at 606, Ohio State at 612 and California at 613.
Mayorkas, who tied her own school record with a 5-under par 66 on Monday, answered with a cool 2-under par 69 in the second round. She stands atop the leaderboard at 7-under par 135. Mayorkas played the first 12 holes in 3-under par before a bogey at 13 dropped her one stroke. She played even par the rest of the way, and leads second-place Julie Tvede of Tulsa by seven shots.
UCLA sophomore Susie Mathews climbed the ladder Tuesday with an even par round of 71 and is tied for third place at 144 (+2) with Ohio State's Kristen White. Mathews' round featured eight pars, five birdies and five bogeys.
Senior Krystal Shearer is tied for 13th at 8-over 150, senior Gina Umeck is tied for 16th at 9-over 151 and freshman Hannah Jun is tied for 42nd at 157, 15-over par.
Senior Bridget Dwyer, competing as an individual, climbed from 43rd into a tie for 22nd (152) after posting a second round score of 73.
