BuyCom Tour Kicks Off 2002 Season

The Buy.Com Tour kicks off its 2002 season with a bang this week as the PGA and Australasian Tours merge for the first time ever at the co-sanctioned Jacobs Creek Open Championship.
Played at the Kooyonga Golf Club in Adelaide, Australia, the event features a $500,000 total purse, with a check for $100,000 going to the winner.
Also featured at the event are some of the tours finest players. Seventy-nine golfers will be representing the Australasian Tour, while 77 from the U.S.-based Buy.Com circuit will compete.
A few of the players from America include Keith Clearwater, Barry Cheesman, Bryce Molder, Rob McKelvey, Casey Martin and Marco Dawson.
Meanwhile, international stars Aaron Baddeley, David Smail, Nick OHern, Greg Turner, Matthew Goggin and Brett Ogle are all set to tee it up.
The Kooyonga (which means swampy waters) Golf Club was built in 1923, and has played host to many big events in Australia, including five Australian Opens and two Australian Amateur Championships. Champions over its layout have included Gary Player in the 65 Australian Open and Greg Norman during the 96 South Australian Open.
The Buy.Com Tour will remain overseas in its second week as well, teaming up with the Australasian circuit again in New Zealand for the Clearwater Classic. Then the tour will move back to the U.S., with play picking up again in the second week of April at the Louisiana Open
