Byron Nelson Tourney Raises Purse


IRVING, Texas -- The purse for the 2003 EDS Byron Nelson Championship has been raised to $5.6 million and for the first time in tournament history, the champion will earn more than a million dollars.

The prize has been raised by $800,000 over last year. This is the ninth consecutive year that the Salesmanship Club increased the purse, keeping it among the largest on the PGA Tour. The champion's share will be $1.008 million.
'By offering one of the largest purses on the PGA Tour, we are committed to attracting the top players in the world to the EDS Byron Nelson Championship,' said 2003 tournament chairman Randy Engstrom. 'This is going to be a very exciting year for the tournament. We are delighted to have EDS as our new title sponsor.
