'I would love to have defended my title at Huntingdale but due to my schedule I need to be selfish and think hard about that schedule,' he said.
Campbell, who has apologized to the Australian Masters' sponsors, said he wanted to continue playing events on the European schedule. Although he has played the last two ANZ Tour events, the Greg Norman Holden International and the Heineken Classic, they are also co-sanctioned by the European Tour.
'I want to get off to a good start on the European Tour this year, which I have already,' said Campbell. 'I was always playing three in a row and they were the Heineken Classic, which I won, the Greg Norman in Sydney and here in Malaysia.
Campbell will return to Australia for next week's season-ending ANZ Tour Championship. A good finish will put Campbell in the top-three on the ANZ tour's Order of Merit, which would qualify him for the British Open and the WGC - American Express Championship.
