Casey in Contention at Greater Cleveland Open

Casey Martin, playing in his first event since the Supreme Court ruled he could use a cart in competition, carded a 4-under-par 68 in the first round of the Buy.Com Greater Cleveland Open.

Martin is four shots off the 18-hole lead in Concord, Ohio, held by Heath Slocum, who recorded a career-low 8-under-par 64.
Martin was 1-under-par through 14 holes before wacking his driver against the passenger-seat cushion of his golf cart at the 15th. He then proceeded to birdie the 15th, 16th and 18th holes at Quail Hollow Resort to finish the day at 4-under.
The 29-year-old winner of the 1998 Lakeland Classic has failed to finish in the top-30 this season, missing four of eight cuts. Hes currently 132nd on the 2001 money list.
Slocum started the season with a third-place finish at the Florida Classic, which has accounted for over half of his earnings this season.
Thursday, the 27-year-old notched four birdies on each side without a bogey.
Paul Curry, Rob Bradley and Mike Schuchart are all tied for second place after 7-under-par 65s.
