Chamblee Encouraged by his Play in Return to Action

2007 FrySCOTTSDALE, Ariz. -- Brandel Chamblee had no expectations heading into this weeks Frys Electronics Open other than go out, have fun and let the scoring take care of itself. Deep down, though, he was looking to capitalize on the low numbers he posted the past six weeks while practicing with his buddies.

Expectations turned into reality on Friday, with Chamblee needing a low number to move inside the cut line and stick around for the weekend. Sitting at 5 over par after 11 holes, Chamblee birdied three of his next seven to get within striking distance before an untimely bogey at 18 finished him at even-par 70 for the day and 3 over for the tournament, three shots above the cut line.

It was fun and frustrating, well, mostly frustrating, joked Chamblee after his round. I had been playing really well coming in here. I just put it in some spots out there that I would have had better luck working a rubiks cube in the dark than getting it up and down yesterday. Today I played solid, just missed a lot of putts. I hit a lot of good shots, enough to be encouraged.

Chamblee, a full-time GOLF CHANNEL analyst, competed this week at the Frys Electronics Open on a sponsor exemption, his first PGA TOUR event in three years since the 2004 Valero Texas Open.

Chamblee has no intentions of slowing down his analyst work at GOLF CHANNEL. He is scheduled to continue as a player correspondent at the Frys Electronics Open this weekend and will return to the booth next week alongside host Kraig Kann for Sprint Pre and Post Game. He also will continue to play competitive golf, including a couple of tournaments in the offseason.

When I quit I was tired of golf, said Chamblee. Six months ago I started enjoying the game a little bit more. Im playing well, although my score today might not be indicative of that.

I am also looking forward to getting back into the studio. So for now I am going to have two plates spinning and will see how long I can keep them going.
