Colbert won last years event at the age of 60, becoming the 10th sexagenarian to win a tournament in Senior PGA Tour history. He also became the eighth player to record 20 or more victories on tour.
The former Kansas State star began his senior career in 1991, when he won rookie of the year honors. He recorded six straight multiple-win seasons from 91-96. His resume includes one major title, at the 1993 Ford Senior Players Championship.
I feel the best about this win over any other. Its hard to share. It is so fulfilling, said Colbert following his SBC triumph.
Colbert shot 12-under-par 204 to snap Joe Inmans three-year reign at this event; though, Inman won all three titles at the Wilshire Country Club in Los Angeles. It was Colberts first victory since October 1998.
This years winner will receive $217,500. The usual suspects are scheduled to compete: Tom Kite, Allen Doyle, Gil Morgan, Larry Nelson, Doug Tewell, Fuzzy Zoeller and last week's Audi Senior Classic champion Bruce Lietzke.
Colbert has history on his side, as the previous two different champions have successfully defended their titles. Before Inman won three straight, Morgan won in 1996 and 97.
