After the first day at the Fresno State Lexus Golf Classic, the Colorado State men's team holds a three-stroke lead over rival BYU, 552 to 555. Martin Laird sits just one stroke off the lead after shooting rounds of 70 and 64 for a 134.
Laird is 10-under-par, while teammate Nolan Martin is in fourth place after nailing two rounds of 68 for a 136. John Hayes and Kevin McAlpine are two-under par and tied for 25th place and James Kurtenbach is tied for 35th with an even par total of 144.
Leading the tournament individually is James Allenby of UTEP with a total of 133 after carding rounds of 67 and 66.
Three Mountain West schools make up the top three in the tournament standings, with BYU in second at 555 and San Diego State in third at 557. Competition continues and concludes tomorrow in Fresno, Calif.
