Oklahoma State's men's golf team carded an 11-under, 273 score on Tuesday morning to claim its first victory of the season at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate held at the Old Overton Golf Course.
The Cowboys, who entered the day in a first-place tie with Wake Forest, finished with a 54-hole total of 818, 34-under, and four shots clear of Georgia. The win for OSU was its fourth title at the event and first since 2001 came courtesy of a solid team effort that saw all five players finish in the top 25 individually.
Freshman Casey Wittenberg continued his steady climb up the tournament's individual leaderboard with a final-round 67. The Memphis, Tenn., native began the day tied for seventh before ending play in sole possession of fourth place with a 202 score to earn his first career top-five finish. Wittenberg finished the event seven shots off the pace of champion Bill Haas of Wake Forest.
Junior Alex Norn, who entered the day tied for second after opening play with a pair of 65s, came in with a 74 to tie for seventh place at 204, nine-under-par.
Sophomore Zack Robinson finished with a four-under total of 209 after carding a final-round 69 to finish in 19th place, while freshman Tyler Leon carded a 67 on Tuesday to notch his second career top-20 finish, tying for the 20th spot at 210.
Sophomore Chris Clarke tied for 23rd place after finishing play with a one-under 70 to finish at 211, two-under.
The Cowboys will close out the fall season when they travel to Myrtle Beach, S.C., to begin play in the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship on Nov. 7.
