Stroke play medalist Marianne Towersey also advanced into the second round by defeating Sandy Szczerbin 2 and 1.

Also moving on were 1995 champion Jean Smith and 1992 champion Rosemary Thompson.

The USGA Senior Women's Amateur, open to female amateur golfers who have reached their 50th birthday, is one of 13 championships conducted by the USGA each year.
