Defending Champion Withdraws from GGCC

A vision problem forced defending champion Scott Hoch to withdraw from the Greater Greensboro Chrysler Classic Thursday.
Hoch, 46, had his third laser eye surgery earlier in the week and was still experiencing trouble with distortion in his right eye. He tried wearing a contact Wednesday during the pro-am, but that failed to correct the problem.
This is disappointing, Hoch said. Unless youre Tiger (Woods) theres not too many opportunities to defend. Thats something you always look forward to.
Hoch first had laser surgery more than a year ago. He started experiencing problems in March, when he started having double vision in his right eye.
Willie Wood replaced Hoch in the field. The withdrawal was doubly disappointing because Hoch is a native of nearby Raleigh and went to school at Wake Forest.
Hoch is next scheduled to play in the upcoming Compaq Classic in New Orleans. It is not certain whether he will be able to compete.
