Disney Gets New Title Sponsor


The Disney Classic has a new sponsor. The PGA Tour and Funai Electric Co., Ltd announced Wednesday a multi-year agreement whereby Funai becomes the title sponsor of the annual event at Walt Disney World Resort.
Financial terms were not disclosed, but the tour requires at least a four-year commitment.
The Funai Classic at Walt Disney World will take place Oct. 23-26, 2003.
Funai produces audi-video products under the brand names of Emerson, Sylvania, and Symphonic, as well as Funai.
The inaugural Disney Classic took place in 1971. Past champions include Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Payne Stewart, Raymond Floyd, Lanny Wadkins, Larry Nelson and Hal Sutton. Bob Burns won this years Disney event for his first career PGA Tour victory.
This is another in a long line of sponsorship changes announced by the tour.
In addition to those tournaments that kept the same sponsors, there are now the Bank of America Colonial, Chrysler Classic of Tucson, Chrysler Championship, Deutsche Bank U.S. Championship, HP Classic of New Orleans, EDS Byron Nelson Championship, 84 Lumber Classic of Pennsylvania, Ford Championship and Wachovia Championship.
