Doyle Leads After One in Senior Slam

Allen Doyle shot a 5-under-par 67 to take a three-stroke lead after the first round of the two-day Senior Slam in St. Augustine, Fla.
 
Tom Watson, the Senior PGA Championship winner, rolled in a 35-foot birdie putt on the 17th hole to finish with a 70. Doug Tewell, the Tradition winner, was another shot back, while U.S. Senior Open champion Bruce Fleisher missed only one fairway and two greens but settled for 18 pars.
 
The 36-hole event features this years Senior major championship winner, with the winner earning $300,000.
 
Doyle, the Ford Senior Players champion, birdied three of his final five holes on The Slammer & The Squire course, which overlooks the World Golf Hall of Fame.
 
The 53-year-old finished the season first on the money list with more than $2.5 million.
