College CentralThe Duke men's golf team fired a 6-under-par 278 in the opening round of the Nelson Invitational at the Stanford Golf Course and leads the 15-team field by one stroke. Rounding out the top five are Colorado (279), Kansas (279), Washington (279) and Southern California (280).
 
Toledo's Brad Heaven sits atop the leaderboard after firing a 7-under par 64 on the day. Duke's Ryan Blaum is in second place, two strokes behind Heaven with a 5-under par 66. Rounding out the top five individuals are Nolan Martin (CSU), Andrew Price (Kansas), Tom Lefebvre (Duke) and Edward McGlasson (Colorado), who are all tied for third with a 4-under par 67.
 
Joining Blaum and Lefebvre in the Blue Devil lineup are Nathan Smith (T17th, 70), Mike Castleforte (T59th, 75) and Alex Wilson (T65th, 76).
 
Action continues Saturday at the Stanford Golf Course with the second round of play. The teams will play 18 holes for the day.
