Els Wrist Will be Ready for Masters

Ernie Els believes he will be fit for next week's Masters Tournament. The reigning British Open champion injured his right wrist three weeks ago while striking a punching bag in the garage of his London home.

He withdrew from last week's Players Championship and is currently spending time with his family in the Bahamas.

'My main priority has been to take care of the wrist, by receiving regular treatment and doing all the things I'm supposed to do in order to get it better,' Els said on his official Web site.

'I should be back to normal by the end of this week, by which time I'll be gearing myself up for Augusta.'

Els was bothered by the wrist injury at the Bay Hill Invitational two weeks ago. He was in contention through two rounds, but shot 72-77 over the weekend to tie for 38th.

Els was not scheduled to compete in this week's BellSouth Classic.

'Right from the start of the year when I sat down and planned my schedule for 2003, this was always written down as a week off for me,' he said.

'Personally speaking, that's how I like to prepare for the first major championship of the year.'
