European Tour Travels Once Again to Malaysia

RSS

Yeh Wei-tze returns this week to the site of his first and only professional win in golf, the European Tour's Malaysian Open.

With his finish of 10-under-par 278 last year, Wei-tze became just the second man ever from Taiwan to win on the European Tour. Lu Liang Huan, better known as Mr. Lu, was the first to do so, when he took the French Open at Biarritz in 1972.

Isao Aoki is the only other man from the continent of Asia to win on the tour. He did so with a victory at the '83 European Open.

The 27-year-old Wei-tze beat out Ireland's Padraig Harrington, Craig Hainline and Des Terblanche by one shot, and bested Retief Goosen and three others by two.

As he took home 136,514 euro, it was by far the youngsters most profitable day in golf, and his `most glorious,' as he put it.

This year the anty is up even more, with the new sponsor of Carlsberg increasing the total purse to nearly $912,000, with the victor taking home about $152,000 (or 163,655 euro) of that total.
