Europeans Make Debut at Tucson

Last year's PGA Tour winners will be playing across the ocean in Hawaii, but a whole armada of good players will tackle Omni Tucson National and the Gallery Golf Club for the Touchstone Energy Tucson Open beginning Thursday.

It will also be a coming-out party for those Europeans who survived the Qualifying Tournament in November. Included on the Tour's early list of competitors are Italy's Emanuele Canonica and Sweden's Per-Ulrik Johansson. Also included on the list is Bernhard Langer of Germany, who lives with his wife and family in Florida throughout the winter.
Others who are scheduled to play include Fred Couples, John Daly, Steve Elkington, Billy Mayfair, Lee Janzen, Craig Stadler, U.S. Ryder Cup captain Curtis Strange, Fuzzy Zoeller, John Cook, Bob May, Craig Parry and Steve Pate.
Jim Carter won last year's tournament over Jean Van de Velde, Chris DiMarco and Tom Scherrer.
