Faldo Gets Invitational to PGA Championship

PGA of America Nick Faldo has received a special invitation to compete in the 2002 PGA Championship at Hazeltine National Golf Club in Chaska, Minn.
The 44-year-old was not otherwise exempt for the season's final major championship. He has won six major tournaments - three Masters and three British Opens. His best PGA finish came in a tie for second in 1992 at Bellerive Country Club in St. Louis, Mo. He also finished third in '93 and tied for fourth in '88 and '94.
Faldo is still seeking an invite into this year's U.S. Open at Bethpage State Park in Farmingdale, N.Y.
If he doesn't get invited to play the Black Course, he would more than likely have to go through the qualifying process. Faldo is currently 75th in the Official World Golf Ranking, and could earn his way into the U.S. Open by moving into the top 50.
'It's been worked out that two top-5 finishes could do it for me on the world rankings,' Faldo said at this week's European Tour Deutsche Bank-SAP Open.
