Fleisher Defends at Silverado

Two titles are still up in the air when The Transamerica is held this week at Silverado Resort at Napa, Cal. Larry Nelson and Bruce Fleisher are in the race for Player of the Year, and Doug Tewell leads Tom Kite for Rookie of the Year.
Fleisher has won four times and searches for his fifth when he defends the Transamerica title he won last year. Nelson leads the Senior Tour with six wins, two more than Fleisher, but he will pass up the Silverado event. It will be excellent time to gain ground with three more tournaments left in 2000.
Tewell has three wins to Kite's two and leads the Texan by approximately $300,000. Tewell claims a major among his three victories. The Transamerica has a total purse of $4.7 million and a first-place prize of $165,000.
The tournament, which begins Friday, features 23 of the season's top 31 money-winners.
