Fleisher No Long Shot in Long Island

Bruce Fleisher is in search of a three-peat in this weeks Lightpath Long Island Classic at the Meadow Brook Club in Jericho, N.Y.
This year's U.S. Senior Open champion will also be trying to put behind him a disappointing defeat to Allen Doyle in a playoff in last week's State Farm Senior Classic.
In 2000, Fleisher successfully defended his title by hitting 39 of 42 fairways. He won wire-to-wire, edging Dana Quigley by two strokes.
This is the 14th playing of the event, though there have only been nine different winners. Aside from Fleisher, Lee Trevino won back-to-back in 1994-95; and George Archer won three straight years beginning in 1990.
The purse has grown to $1.7 million, with $255,000 going to the winner.
Bobby Wadkins is eligible to make his first Senior PGA Tour start this week. Wadkins, who turned 50 on July 26, has played in 777 combined PGA Tour and Buy.Com Tour events without garnering victory.
Ford Senior Players champion Doyle, Hubert Green, Hale Irwin, Gil Morgan, Larry Nelson and Tradition winner Doug Tewell are also scheduled to compete.
