Frenchman Stars at Aa St Omer Open

2005 Aa St-Omer OpenDespite the playing of the year's second major at the U.S. Open at Winged Foot, the European Tour is rolling out the 10th edition of the Aa St. Omer Open in France.
Jean-Francois Remesy will lead a strong French contingent, each looking for a win in their home event. Remesy is the two-time defending champion at the Open de France, the country's oldest national tournament.
With a depleted field due to many of the top players playing across the pond, the field for the event will be comprised from both the regular tour and the Challenge Tour, the only occasion this season for a dual ranking event.
Sweden's Joakim Backstrom won his first-ever European Tour event last year when he defeated Englishman Paul Dwyer on the first playoff hole. The Swedes have been performing well of late as seen by Carl Pettersson's win at the Memorial Tournament and Robert Karlsson victory at the Celtic Manor Wales Open two weeks ago. Another Swede, Niclas Fasth, won the Andalucia Open de Espana in late April.
This is the seventh playing of the Aa St. Omer Open and the fourth time as part of the regular European Tour schedule. The tour heads into Scotland next week for the Johnnie Wlaker Championship at Gleneagles where Emanuele Canonica is the defending champion.
