GBI Names 2003 Walker Cup Captain

Irelands Garth McGimpsey has been named captain of the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team in 2003, when the team will face the United States at Ganton.
McGimpsey, 46, has represented Ireland for 21 years in international golf. He takes over for Peter McEvoy, who guided the GB&I team to their first successful defense earlier this year. Britain and Ireland triumphed over the U.S. 15-9 in August at Sea Island, Ga.
McGimpsey has played in three Cup Matches. He helped notch the teams first win on U.S. soil in 1989.
McGimpsey will also captain the Britain and Ireland team for the St. Andrews Trophy match to be played against the continent of Europe at Lausanne in 2002.
