NCAAHOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. --- The top-ranked and top-seeded Georgia men's golf team capped the fall portion of its schedule on Sunday by winning the Hooters Collegiate Match Play Championship.
The Bulldogs knocked off No. 3 seed Georgia Tech 3 and 2 in the final at the Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort. Georgia ended the fall with three wins along with a second- and a third-place finish in five events.
'It was a great victory, especially considering it was against our biggest rival,' Georgia coach Chris Haack said. 'This was one in which we definitely put out a lot of effort, and it meant even more considering it was head-to-head against Georgia Tech. I was happy with the way we played against Georgia Tech. They have very good players, and we had to be at our best to get past them.'
In the final against the Yellow Jackets, senior Kevin Kisner and juniors Chris Kirk and Brendon Todd notched the victories. Kisner won 2 and 1 over Taylor Hall, Kirk took a 5 and 4 win over Cameron Tringale, and Todd posted a 6 and 5 win over David Dragoo. Senior Richard Scott and freshman Brian Harman dropped 2 and 1 decisions in their matches.
Georgia will resume the 2005-06 schedule Feb. 26-28 at the Puerto Rico Classic.
