Gilder Thorpe Set to Battle Again

Thus far this season on the Champions Tour there have been 21 different winners in 22 events.
That trend could change this week in West Des Moines, Iowa.
The Allianz Championship doesnt have much history ' its only in its third year of existence ' but there is one common thread running between the first two editions.
Each of the first two winners of this event already had a title to their credit the year they prevailed at Glen Oaks Country Club (par-71, 6,864 yards).
Jim Thorpe earned his second title of the season when he won here in 2001, and Bob Gilder claimed win No. 3 of his four-win 2002 campaign.
Gilder outdueled John Bland last year by making a four-foot par putt on the final hole for a one-stroke victory.
Coincidentally, Thorpe and Gilder battled for last week's title at the Long Island Classic, with Thorpe edging out a one-shot win.
That left Gilder still looking for his second victory of the season. He captured the Emerald Coast Classic in April.
Both players ' given the tournament's very brief history ' would seem good bets this week.
Bruce Lietzke is the only player to win twice in '03, doing so at the Liberty Mutual Legends of Golf and the U.S. Senior Open.
