Goosen Named European Tour POY


Retief Goosen was named Wednesday the 2001 Asprey & Garrand Golfer of the Year on the European Tour.
The 32-year-old South African won three times on the European Tour International Schedule en route to capturing the Order of Merit (money title).
The highlight of Goosens season came in the U.S. Open, where he overcame a three-putt bogey on the 72nd hole to defeat Mark Brooks in an 18-hole Monday playoff at Southern Hills Country Club in Tulsa, Okla.
He also won The Scottish Open at Loch Lomond and the Telefonica Open de Madrid.
In addition, Goosen partnered with Ernie Els to win the World Golf Championships ' EMC World Cup in a playoff over Denmark, New Zealand and the United States team of Tiger Woods and David Duval.
