The University of Minnesota mens golf team won its second tournament in as many weeks at the Windon Memorial Classic in Glenview, Ill.
The Golden Gophers fired rounds of 283-288-288=859 to win by nine shots over second place Purdue and California. The tournament was played at the par 72, 7,058-yard North Shore Country Club.
Senior preseason All-American Justin Smith (Moon Township, Pa./Moon Area) recorded his third top-10 finish of the fall season tying for second at 5-under 211. Smith fired a 71 today, his sixth consecutive round under par this year.
Junior Ben Greve (Annandale, Minn./Annandale) playing in his first tournament of the year, shot even par today and finished tied for seventh at 1-under 215. Senior David Morgan (Rochester, Minn./Robert L. Stevenson) made the biggest move of the day also carding a 71. Morgan finished tied for 19th with teammate Bronson LaCassie (Brisbane, Queensland/Kelvin Grove). The freshman shot a 74 today and both players finished at 5-over 221. Sophomore Ryan Paulson (Minneapolis, Minn./Holy Angels) finished tied for 36th at 8-over 224.
The Gophers are next in action on Oct. 31-Nov. 2 at the Landfall Tradition in Wilmington, N.C.
