Granadam Leads SALLY Amateur with 71

Julieta Granadam, an 18-year-old David Leadbetter Acadmeny student, who hails from Asuncion, Paraguay, leads after the first round of the SALLY Amateur Ladies tournament with a score of 71.
Granadam played last week in the Harder Hall event and turned in back-to-back 68s, finishing second. She birdied Nos. 5, 6 and 7 to go 3-under on the first seven holes en route to her 1-under-par score. Granadam has been awarded a sponsor's exemption for the LPGA's Kraft Nabisco Championship in March.

Trailing two shots back at 73 are 1998 SALLY winner Virginia Grimes and Taylor Leon, another Leadbetter student.
Grimes, a 41-year-old from Montgomery, Ala., is a Curtis Cup veteran who credited her low score to avoiding the rough, which she describes as 'wiry'. Leon is a 17-year-old from Dallas, Texas, who plays and practices in the same group as Granada at the Leadbetter Academy. Her round of 73 included two penalty shots. Taylor can include playing in the 2003 Jr. Solheim Cup, 2004 U.S. Women's Open and 2004 U.S. Women's Amateur in her golf resume.

University of Florida golfer Tiffany Chudy from Miriamar, Fl., made a couple of bogeys and had to settle for a 2-over-par 74. Embry Riddle student Heidi Lowe, of New Smyrna Beach, Fl., shares fifth place with Alexis Rather of Tupelo, Miss.
