Hagewood Receives 2001 Dinah Shore Award


Melanie Hagewood of Baylor University is the 2001 recipient of the Dinah Shore Trophy Award, sponsored by The LPGA Foundation. The award recognizes a female collegiate golfer who excels in both academics and athletics.
Hagewood received her award, a crystal replica of the actual Dinah Shore Trophy, during the annual National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Women's Golf Banquet.
Hagewood was chosen based on her outstanding achievements in academics, leadership, community service and golf. As part of the Dinah Shore Trophy Award, the Baylor University's women's golf program will receive a $7,000 grant to in Hagewood's name.
Hagewood, who has a GPA of 3.98 and a scoring average of 77.00, is majoring in mechanical engineering and is the number-one player on the Baylor's women's golf team. Her academic honors include the Big 12 Commissioner's Honor Roll, Gamma Beta Phi Honor Society and the Dean's List (five consecutive semesters). She also was a two-year Big 12 First Team All-Academic selection and the recipient of 2001 Big 12 Second Team All-Conference honors.
In addition to her academic and athletic achievements, Hagewood has also been extensively involved in community service during the last three years.
