Duke Universitys Candy Hannemann, the 2001 NCAA champion, will miss the fall season after undergoing reconstructive ligament surgery on her right ankle Tuesday.

Hannemann sustained an ankle injury during the first round of match play Aug. 1 at the U.S. Amateur. Hannemann stepped on uneven ground and turned her ankle in a match she lost against Candie Kung.

Duke will play the fall with five players: freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh, sophomores Leigh Ann Hardin and Virada Nirapathpongporn, and juniors Kristina Enstrom and Marcia Garcia-Estrada. Hannemann is a senior.
