Henley Down to Last Nationwide Exemption

04 Pete Dye ClassicKip Henley looks to change his Nationwide Tour luck when the champion of the second season of The Golf Channels Big Break series uses his final Big Break Nationwide Tour exemption at the National Mining Association Pete Dye Classic on Thursday.
Live coverage will tee off at 1:30 p.m. ET, through Sunday.

Henley struggled in his last Nationwide Tour Big Break exemption, missing the cut at the Lake Erie Charity Classic in Erie, Pa. The fates seemed against Henley during his debut appearance at the Henrico County Open in Richmond, Va., where a two-stroke penalty he called on himself in round 1 prevented him from making the cut by two shots.
The Crossville, Tenn., native outlasted nine other competitors in the second installment of The Golf Channels popular reality series, earning exemptions to play in four Nationwide Tour events. Henleys previous exemptions included the Henrico County Open (Richmond, Va.) and the LaSalle Bank Open (Glenview, Ill.).
Henley has parlayed his Big Break success into extra invitations in 2005, adding two Nationwide Tour stops to his calendar: the Chattanooga Classic (Chattanooga, Tenn.) and the Knoxville Open (Knoxville, Tenn.). His first-place tie at the FedEx St. Jude Classic Member Qualifier also earned him a spot in the PGA TOURs FedEx St. Jude Classic (Memphis, Tenn.) May 26-29.
D.A. Points victory at this event last year helped him on his path to the PGA Tour. Points fired a 62 in the second round and held on for a five-shot win. So far in 2005 on the PGA Tour, Points has made the cut in six of 18 events, with his best finish a tie for 13th at the rain-shortened Nissan Open.
The Nationwide Tour moves to Wisconsin next week for the Scholarship America Showdown, where current PGA Tour player Kevin Stadler titled in 2004.
