In a ceremony Thursday night, the club secretly brought back most of his former instructors for the presentation, The Augusta Chronicle reported Friday.
A surprised Howell was greeted with his teachers, including current instructor David Leadbetter.
'I didn't expect any of this,' Howell told the Chronicle. 'It caught me off guard. I can't thank any of them enough for being here.'
Howell, 23, was the PGA Tour's rookie of the year in 2001 and finished ninth on the money list in 2002.
Howell lives with his wife, Heather, in Orlando, but starting in 2003 he plans to list Augusta as his hometown on pairing sheets, the Chronicle reported. He had been using Orlando in 2001 and 2002.
'One of the reasons I've been able to do this is because I grew up in Augusta,' Howell said. 'The Masters Tournament is here, and you all know my dream is to get a green jacket. '
