Irwin, who first won the event in 1998, shot weekend rounds of 64-65 to ease past 2000 champion Allen Doyle by five shots.
Now, Irwin will try and add the Toshiba to the list of events hes won at least three times. The 57-year-old has won three tournaments three times, and has captured the Turtle Bay Championship four times.
But doing that would be secondary to what he really wants to accomplish ' winning anywhere this season.
Irwin has a pair of runner-up finishes in five starts, but hasnt picked up a trophy. He has won at least two events per season ' and 36 overall ' since joining the 50-and-over circuit in 1995.
He has only twice (1999 and 2000) gone more than five starts at the beginning of the year without a victory.
This is the ninth playing of this event, and the eighth time it has been held at the par-71 Newport Beach Country Club in Newport Beach, Calif.
The purse is $1.55 million, with $232,500 going to the winner.
