Jack Nicklaus Sues Wilson

Jack Nicklaus has sued a sporting goods company that has introduced a line of golf balls carrying the brand name 'JACK.'

'Any time you put 'Jack' with golf, you and everyone else knows who we're talking about,' said Michael Reed, a lawyer for Nicklaus and his golf equipment companies.

Nicklaus is claiming trademark infringement in the U.S. District Court lawsuit.

He says Chicago-based Wilson Sporting Goods is misleading people into thinking Nicklaus is associated with the balls.

Wilson spokeswoman Molly Wallace said Tuesday the company had no comment.

Nicklaus and his companies want Wilson to get rid of its JACK products and promotional materials and have asked the court to order the company to stop using the name. They also want Wilson to pay unspecified damages.

The lawsuit, filed April 14, says Nicklaus Golf Equipment Co. has the right to the 'JACK' trademark and has been making irons labeled 'JACK' since 1997.
