Jackson St Women Set Mark

Jackson State's women's golf team has become the first team from a historically black college to advance to the NCAA regional championship.
The Jackson State women, composed of five sophomores and a freshman, will play in the 21-team NCAA East Regional May 10-12 in Chapel Hill, N.C. Eight teams will advance from three regionals to play in the NCAA Women's Golf Championships at Mission Inn Resort near Orlando, Fl.
The men's team from Jackson State was invited in 1996. 'I have the same feeling of accomplishment,' said coach Eddie Payton.
Top players include Tierra Manigault of Los Angeles, Lenise Layons of Atlanta and Akita Taylor of Claremont, Cal.
