Lonard Injures Thumb in Australia

Peter Lonard sustained an injury to his thumb at the recent ANZ Championship in Sydney, Australia, and has been advised to take a lengthy break to allow his thumb to recover.
Im absolutely shattered, Lonard said in the Herald-Sun newspaper of Australia. The doctor has told me to take seven weeks off.
I cant take seven weeks off. That would take me into my preparation time for the Masters in April, Lonard said on arrival at Los Angeles airport, where he is slated to play in the Nissan Open.
He is hoping that, with the help of painkillers, the injury will heal before the tournament in Augusta.
Its the first major of the year and my first Masters. I battled hard to get into the worlds top-50 players to qualify, he said. It would be a devastating blow to me if I was forced (to withdraw.)
