A closing 63, featuring a front-nine 28, brought Love from seven strokes back in the final round and gave him a one-stroke victory over Vijay Singh at Pebble Beach. With top-10 finishes at the Buick Invitational (2nd) and Nissan Open (T-8), Love's February earnings of $1,119,000 lifted him to the top of the money list with $1,238,400.
Love's success on the nine-tournament PGA Tour West Coast Swing presented by The St. Paul also earned the title 'King of the Swing' and a $500,000 bonus. The Player of the Month selection was his third, following April 1995 and August 1997.
After tying for 20th place in the month's first event, the Royal Caribbean Classic, Morgan picked up the pace. His two-stroke victory over Dana Quigley at Pelican Marsh Golf Club was followed by a tie for second at the Verizon Classic. The win gave him 12 more than the seven victories he had on the PGA Tour.
Morgan's Player of the Month selection was his fourth on the Senior Tour, following similar honors in November 1997, September 1999 and March 2000.
Love joins January Player of the Month Mark Calcavecchia on the PGA Tour list. Morgan was the first Senior Tour honoree of 2001. Selections for each tour are made by media panels, and the players receive special medals commemorating their achievement.
