Lye Recovering From Bout With Cancer


ORLANDO, Fla. -- Having fought through a recurrence of cancerous melanoma in his left leg, Golf Channel Analyst Mark Lye is recuperating well in his Bonita Springs, Fla., home.
Lye, MarkLye underwent successful surgery on July 10 to remove a tumor in his thigh. This is the first recurrence since the melanoma was originally discovered on his left knee 10 years ago.
His wife, Lisa, says his leg is healing well and prognosis is positive. Once his leg has healed to a level with which his doctors are comfortable, Lye will undergo intense drug therapy for four weeks, and continue a prescribed therapy program for another 48 weeks. He is expected to resume his normal work schedule soon after the first round of treatments is completed.

Being in this situation makes me realize how much I love the game of golf and the people associated with it, Lye said. I very much look forward to returning to The Golf Channel.

A professional golfer since 1975, Mark Lye is the lead analyst for The Golf Channels live tournament coverage of PGA Tour, Tour and PGA of America events. Lye also contributes his expertise as an analyst for Golf Central and special editions of Viewers Forum covering the majors.
In his 18-year pro career, Lye earned nearly $2 million on the PGA Tour, with his best year in 1983 when he captured the Bank of Boston Classic and finished 28th on the money list. Lye graduated from San Jose State in 1975, where he was a three-time All America.
