Major Toms Defends at Kingsmill

When you speak of Williamsburg, Va., its almost impossible not to precede the city with historic.
The same can now be said of David Toms and PGA champion.
Toms will try and defend his title this week in the Michelob Championship at Kingsmill Golf Club.
Toms defeated Mike Weir on the first extra hole a year ago to claim his fourth career PGA Tour victory. Of course, then, Toms was just a very good player. Now, hes a major champion.
Unlike last year at Kingsmill, Toms didnt need an extra session to capture this years PGA Championship, as he parred the 72nd hole to better Phil Mickelson.
The Michelob Championship is one of only four events remaining before the $5 million Tour Championship. This weeks purse is $3.5 million, with $630,000 going to the winner.
Last weeks victor, Justin Leonard, is scheduled to compete; as are Robert Allenby, Paul Azinger, David Duval, Jim Furyk, Tom Lehman, Nick Price, Scott Hoch and Lee Janzen.
Duval won his maiden Tour title at this event in 1997. It was the first of three consecutive victories to cap the 97 season.
The win helped launch Duval to No. 1 in the world ranking. He then successfully defended his title a year later.
Something Toms would like to accomplish in 2001.
