NAACP Protests Near WorldCom Classic

The NAACP continued its campaign to remove the Confederate flag from the Statehouse grounds at the WorldCom Classic in Hilton Head Island.
About half a dozen protesters wore sandwich-board style signs reading, NAACP, Dont Support Hate and Bigotry. Dont visit SC, and Dont Visit SC Until the Flag of Oppression Flies No More.
The protesters stood on the sidewalk along the islands main road, U.S. 278, as tournament spectators made their way to the Harbour Town Golf Links and holiday visitors drove by.
The organization also protested outside the Southern Conference basketball tournament last month. The group plans to picket the Family Circle Cup womens tennis tournament in Charleston next week.
They also plan to march Saturday, hours before the leaders tee off for the WorldComs third round. About 200 people are expected to gather at Hilton Heads town hall before moving to the Sea Pines Circle for a short rally.
